Santa Clarita, CA. – 21-year-old Daniel V. Chavira has been identified as the off-duty Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy who died in a multi-vehicle collision Monday afternoon in Santa Clarita.
The deputy died at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, where he was rushed after being involved in the collision around 3:17 p.m. on 32800 San Francisquito Canyon Road near Dry Gulch Road.
Chavira, who was off duty at the time of the accident, graduated from Academy Class 476 and joined LASD on May 2, 2024. He was assigned to the North County Correctional Facility.
A procession was held for Chavira Monday night in Santa Clarita.
Chavira leaves behind his father, Rodrigo Valencia, his two brothers, Rodrigo Valencia and Deputy Rene Valencia-Chavira, who is assigned to Lancaster Station, and his wife, Deputy Crystal Valencia, who works at San Fernando Court.
Two minors and two adults were hospitalized with unknown injuries sustained in the collision.

Santa Clarita, CA. – A 21-year-old Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy died in a multi-vehicle collision that happened Monday afternoon in Santa Clarita.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the pileup occurred around 3:17 p.m. in the 32800 block of San Francisquito Canyon Road.
Three vehicles, including one driven by the off-duty deputy, were involved in the crash.
The deputy sustained critical injuries. He was airlifted to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. His name was not immediately released.
The deputy joined LASD in May 2024 and was assigned to North County Correctional Facility.
Four other people, including two minors and two adults, were taken by ground ambulance to the same hospital with unspecified injuries.
CHP officers are investigating the collision.
