Menifee man Killed, Another Injured in Winchester Car Accident on Highway 79

Winchester, California (May 4, 2022) – One person died, and another was injured Tuesday afternoon in a Highway 79 car crash, as per a local news source.
The deadly accident happened at about 1:20 p.m. on the southbound side of the highway near Patterson Avenue.
The California Highway Patrol said the wreck involved a BMW and a Toyota pickup truck.
An initial investigation revealed that a 23-year-old Menifee man was driving the BMW north on Highway 79 at a high rate of speed. The motorist attempted to navigate a left curve when he lost control of the car.
At the same time, a 44-year-old San Bernardino man was traveling south on the highway in a Toyota pickup at about 50 to 60 mph.
The BMW crossed into the pickup's path, causing the pickup's front end to crash into the BMW's right side.
The Menifee man driving the BMW died in the accident.
The pickup's driver was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Authorities closed southbound Highway 79 for several hours as they investigated.
