Deputy Eric Fulmer Seriously Injured in Fatal Car Crash at River Road and Villa Manucha Road in Newman

Newman, California (January 11, 2022) – Deputy Eric Fulmer, 34, of the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department was seriously injured Monday morning after being involved in a fatal T-bone crash in Newman, as per a local news source.
The crash, that also left one person dead and another seriously injured, occurred just after 7 a.m. at River Road and Villa Manucha Road.
Deputy Fulmer was among several other deputies who were dispatched to help a Newman police officer who had been involved in a fight with a suspect.
Fulmer, who is assigned to Patterson, was driving to Newman in an unmarked Nissan with lights and siren on when he T-boned a Chevrolet coupe at the intersection.
Fulmer was traveling south on River Road and the Chevrolet approached the intersection from Villa Manucha.
The deputy sustained major but non-life-threatening injuries including a broken leg. He was transported to a hospital where he underwent surgery.
The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as Saul Betancourt, 21, of Modesto, was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, 19-year-old Maria Prado, was rushed to Doctors Medical Center with serious injuries including a possible concussion.
An investigation into the collision is ongoing.
