Donald Mayo, Denise Mayo Among 4 People Injured in Sacramento Crash on Highway 20 near Chalk Bluff Road

Sacramento, California (June 5, 2022) – Donald Mayo, 77, of Live Oak, and Denise Mayo, 67, have been identified as two of the four parties who were injured in a Saturday evening two-vehicle accident that killed a 37-year-old Sacramento woman in Sacramento, authorities said.
The deadly accident occurred at about 6:30 p.m., on June 4, on Highway 20, east of Chalk Bluff Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2002 Acura TL, driven by a man, was headed eastbound on the highway when it failed to negotiate a right curve in the roadway, causing the Acura to cross into the westbound lane.
Unfortunately, the Acura reportedly crashed head-on with a 2022 Ford F-350 with a livestock trailer operated by Donald Mayo.
Donald Mayo and Denise Mayo Injured in Fatal Sacramento Crash
Sadly, the 37-year-old Sacramento woman, who was a passenger in the Acura, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Donald Mayo sustained major injuries in the accident. Denise Mayo, who was a passenger in the Ford, suffered moderate ones. Both were taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center.
Matt Perkins, 43, both of Live Oak, who was also a passenger in the Ford, sustained minor injuries.
The Acura's driver was taken to a Sacramento hospital with major injuries.
The sheep in the trailer were unharmed.
Traffic on the roadway was stopped due to the accident, and as of 8:30 p.m., the roadway was reopened.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
Traffic Collision Fatalities Reached a 16-Year High in 2021, Early Estimates Show
Newly released estimates by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that fatalities reached a 16-year high last year. According to the Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021 report released by NHTSA, about 42,915 people were killed in traffic collisions in 2021. This shows a 10.5% increase from the 38,828 fatalities reported in 2020. NHTSA says the projection is the highest number of traffic deaths since 2005 as well as the largest percentage rise in the history of the Fatality Analysis Reporting System.
