Donna Wildrick ID'd as Woman Killed in Newport Beach Crash on San Joaquin Hills Road and Newport Ridge Drive

Newport Beach, California (June 13, 2022) – Donna Wildrick, 60, of Newport Coast, has been identified as the woman who was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Sunday night in Newport Beach, according to the Orange County Coroner's Office.
The crash was reported at about 8:05 p.m. on June 12, near San Joaquin Hills Road and Newport Ridge Drive.
Police said a BMW and a Tesla collided in the area and one of them caught fire.
Wildrick was in one of the vehicles and was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency crews.
Two juveniles riding in the second vehicle were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A dog was also involved in the accident and was killed.
The cause of the deadly collision is under investigation by the Newport Beach Police Department.

Newport Beach, California (June 13, 2022) – A crash involving two vehicles left a woman and a dog dead on Sunday night in Newport Beach, according to the Newport Beach Police Department.
The incident was reported at around 8:05 p.m. on June 12, in the area of San Joaquin Hills Road and Newport Ridge Drive.
Police said two vehicles collided and one of them caught fire.
A woman and dog died at the scene of the collision.
Two juveniles in the second vehicle were hospitalized with major injuries.
The Newport Beach Police Department is conducting an investigation into the crash.
Traffic Collision Fatalities Reached a 16-Year High in 2021, Early Estimates Show
Newly released estimates by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that fatalities reached a 16-year high last year.
According to the Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021 report released by NHTSA, about 42,915 people were killed in traffic collisions in 2021. This shows a 10.5% increase from the 38,828 fatalities reported in 2020. NHTSA says the projection is the highest number of traffic deaths since 2005 as well as the largest percentage rise in the history of the Fatality Analysis Reporting System.
The report indicates that the traffic fatalities in the following categories showed relatively large increases in 2021, as compared to 2020;

- Fatalities among drivers 65 and older rose by 14%
- Pedestrian fatalities up 13%
- Fatalities in crashes involving at least one large truck up 13%
- Daytime fatalities up 11% Fatalities on urban roads up 16%
- Motorcyclist deaths up 9% Bicyclist deaths up 5%
- Fatalities in speeding-related mishaps up 5%
- Fatalities in police-reported, alcohol-involvement collisions up 5%
