Driver Critically Hurt in Head-On Crash on Highway 101 in Santa Maria Identified

Santa Maria, Calif. – The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office has identified 30-year-old Arain Amjad of Pismo Beach as a driver severely hurt in a head-on crash in Santa Maria last year.

The wreck happened on State at Broadway at around 11:30 p.m. on December 30.

Amjad was hospitalized in critical condition.

ORIGINAL STORY

Santa Maria, Calif. – 30-year-old Arnol Hernandez Zuniga and Adrian Rojas-Ramirez, 30, both Santa Maria residents were killed in a head-on crash on Highway 101 in Santa Maria last year.

According to the Santa Maria Fire Department and the CHP, the incident happened at around 11:30 p.m. on December 30 on Highway 101 at Broadway.

Reportedly, a 2003 Nissan Murano was travelling wrong-way south in the northbound freeway lanes at an unknown speed, when it collided head-on with a northbound 2013 Toyota Highlander.

Zuniga and Rojas-Ramirez, both Murano occupants, were pronounced dead at the crash site.

The Toyota's driver was transported to Marian Regional Medical Center with serious injuries for treatment.

It was unclear whether alcohol and drugs played a role in the wreck.

During the on-scene investigations, the highway was impacted for about two hours.

More information about the wreck was not provided.

An investigation is underway.
