Oakland, CA. – A man died, and a woman was hospitalized after they were struck by a driver evading police officers Wednesday evening in Oakland.
The incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. near East 21st Street and Park Boulevard.
According to the California Highway Patrol, their officers attempted to stop the driver of a stolen vehicle near East 21st Street and 12th Avenue but the motorist did not cooperate.
The officers started a chase but later ended it when the driver started driving recklessly.
The driver lost control of the car and hit two pedestrians – a man and a woman – both in their 40s.
The man died at the scene.
The woman was hospitalized in stable condition.
The suspect attempted to flee the scene on foot after the crash but was apprehended.
Reportedly, the suspect had struck a minivan during the chase prior to hitting the pedestrians.
The Oakland Police Department is investigating the crash and CHP is investigating the chase.
