At Least 1 Injured in Dunsmuir Crash on Interstate 5 Freeway near Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway
Dunsmuir, California (May 31, 2022) – At least one person was injured in a multi-vehicle collision that occurred on Tuesday morning near Dunsmuir, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident happened at around 7 a.m. on Interstate 5 Freeway, just south of Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway.
A GMC SUV reportedly collided head-on with a gray Toyota Camry, and they crashed into a semi-truck.
At least one person sustained major injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The damaged vehicles were removed from the scene by tow trucks.
An investigation to determine the cause of the accident is underway.

According to statistics by NHTSA, over 15,000 lives were saved by seat belts in crashes that happened in 2017. In 2020, 10,893 unbuckled people in passenger vehicles died in crashes in the US. 60% of the young adults (ages 18 to 34) killed in the crashes were completely unrestrained.
