Minor Injuries Sustained in East Palo Alto Crash Involving Detached Tire on Highway 101
East Palo Alto, California (March 14, 2022) – Minor injuries were sustained when a tire detached from a car and hit another Sunday afternoon on Highway 101 in East Palo Alto, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The crash occurred at around 1:39 p.m. just south of the University Avenue off-ramp.
CHP said a Volkswagen sedan was traveling on the northbound side of the highway when a tire detached, flew over the center divider, and hit a red Tesla on the southbound side.
Firefighters responded to the scene and blocked the Nos. 3 and 4 lanes of the southbound traffic.
An occupant of the Tesla sustained minor injuries. An ambulance was sent to the scene to provide medical aid.
The Volvo had a missing left front tire. Both vehicles were towed away from the scene.
CHP is investigating the accident.
