Riverside, California (December 3, 2021) – The Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner's Bureau has identified the man who died Thursday afternoon following a multi-vehicle collision in Riverside as Efren Cordova Vazquez, 20, of Compton.
The pileup occurred at about 2:50 p.m. Thursday, December 2, on the Mission Inn Avenue bridge at Crestmore Road, just west Indian Hill Road.
A black 2002 Lexus sedan was heading westbound on Buena Vista Avenue when, for unknown reasons, the driver, a 19-year-old Compton resident, lost control of the vehicle, which drifted into the eastbound lane and collided with a white 2015 Nissan Sentra.
After the impact, the Lexus veered off the roadway and slammed into a block wall. It then overturned and collided with a 2015 Toyota Camry before catching fire.
Vazquez, who was a passenger in the Lexus, was declared dead at the scene.
The Lexus driver sustained moderate injuries and was taken to a local hospital. The driver of the Toyota and their passenger were also hospitalized with minor injuries.
The driver of the Nissan did not suffer any injuries.
It is undetermined whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.
The collision left Mission Inn Avenue closed in both directions for several hours.
The Riverside Police Department is investigating the accident.
