Emanuel Esparza and Carlos Zuniga Killed, 2 Others Injured in Lake Elsinore Two-Car Crash on Highway 74
Lake Elsinore, California (April 10, 2022) – Authorities have released the names of two people who died early Sunday in a wrong-way crash at an intersection in Lake Elsinore.
Emanuel Esparza, 21, and Carlos Zuniga, 26, both Perris residents, died in a major head-on collision that occurred around 2 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 74 and Hammack Avenue, just northeast of Lake Elsinore.
Esparza and Zuniga sustained fatal injuries and were declared dead at the scene. Two other people were hospitalized following the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.

Lake Elsinore, California (April 10, 2022) – Two people are dead, and two others remain hospitalized following a major head-on collision on Highway 74 in Lake Elsinore early Sunday, to a police report said.
The deadly crash occurred around 2 a.m. at Highway 74 and Hammack Avenue, just northeast of Lake Elsinore.
According to Riverside County Fire Department, officers received multiple calls regarding a vehicle going the wrong way on the highway. Soon after, the fire department received reports of a head-on collision.
According to the authorities, two people – one from each vehicle – were killed in the crash.
Two other people were injured in the crash and were taken to the hospital. One of the patients had serious injuries, authorities said.
Authorities say speed may be a factor in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
