Ernesto Garin Killed in Big Rig Crash at Walnut and Jefferson Avenues in Fresno County

, California (August 26, 2021) – Authorities have identified the teen driver who died Thursday evening in a traffic collision involving a big rig in County as Ernesto Garin, 17. He was a football player at Washington Union High.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the deadly crash occurred at about 6:45 p.m. at the intersection of and Jefferson avenues, near Easton.

A big rig was heading northbound on Walnut Avenue when the driver allegedly ran a red light and collided with a Dodge pickup that was traveling westbound on Jefferson Avenue, driven by Garin.

After the impact, the pickup truck slide under the trailer of the big rig.

Teen Driver Killed in Fresno County Crash Identified

Emergency crews responded to the scene and extricated Garin, who was trapped in the wrecked vehicle. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The big rig driver, who was uninjured, stopped at the scene to cooperate with the authorities. Alcohol or drugs were not considered a factor in the crash.

No further details about the crash were immediately given.

The accident remains under investigation.
