Authorities said a driver was traveling the wrong way when they crashed with at least one other vehicle.

, WA – At least one person died in a wrong-way collision that happened Thursday evening on SR-525 in Lynwood, the Washington State Patrol said.

The wreck took place around 8 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the highway at 148th Street SW.

At least two vehicles, including one that was traveling in the wrong direction, were involved in the collision.

WSP said at least one person died in the accident.

Investigators closed both northbound and southbound lanes of the highway following the crash. Traffic on northbound SR-525 was diverted to Alderwood Mall Parkway, and southbound traffic to .

The report said prior to the collision, Snohomish County Sheriff's deputies were chasing the wrong-way driver for first-degree assault domestic violence, and kidnapping of an adult. The victim was in the suspect's car at the time of the accident. The deputies stopped the chase when the suspect started driving the wrong way.

An investigation is ongoing.
