`Fatal Multi-Vehicle Collision on Pond Road and Highway 43 in Delano

, Calif. – At least one person was killed in a multi-vehicle collision on Pond Road in Delano Friday afternoon.

The California Highway Patrol responded to the accident at around 2:56 p.m. on Pond Road and State Route 43.

Responding crews located at least four vehicles at the intersection. The events leading up to the wreck were not immediately established.

One person was killed in the accident.

The police said four people were injured in the wreck. One of the patients had major injuries and was airlifted to the hospital.

 One person was pinned in a vehicle when Kern County fire officials arrived, prompting them to use the Jaws of Life to free the victim.

The identity of the deceased was upheld pending notification of the next of kin.

The intersection was shut down during the on-scene investigation.

More details about the collision were not provided.
