Fidel Reyes Among 3 Injured in Deadly Santa Maria Accident on Philbric and Betteravia Roads

Santa Maria, California (May 4, 2022) – Fidel Gomes Reyes, 64, of Santa Maria was injured in a deadly car accident in Santa Maria on Monday morning.
The head-on collision occurred near Philbric and Betteravia roads at around 6:30 a.m. on May 2.
According to California Highway Patrol, Reyes was driving a 2006 Peterbilt semi-truck westbound on Betteravia Road when he collided with the left side of a 2007 Honda Civic that was traveling south on Philbric Road and made a left turn onto eastbound Betteravia Road.
The impact sent the semi off the side of the road, where it crashed into a utility pole and a fence, before its trailer overturned.
A passenger in the Honda, identified as a 44-year-old Santa Maria man, died following the collision.

Reyes sustained moderate injuries while the driver of the Honda, Domingo Perez Lopez, 32, of Santa Maria, suffered major injuries. They were both transported to Marian Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Another passenger in the Honda, Servillan Perez Lopez, of Santa Maria, was also taken to Marian Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries.
A power pole was broken in the incident and caused wires to fall onto the roadway. Pacific Gas & Electric Co. employees responded to the scene to repair the damage.
The CHP is handling the investigation.
