26-Year-Old Fontana Woman Killed, Several Injured in 215 Freeway Car Crash near Columbia Avenue in Riverside
Riverside, California (December 5, 2021) –
A traffic collision involving five vehicles has claimed the life of a 26-year-old Fontana woman Sunday morning in Riverside and left several other people injured, authorities said.
The collision occurred on Interstate 215 near Columbia Avenue just before 6:28 a.m.
According to the authorities, a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pickup was traveling southbound on 215 Freeway when its rear left tire went flat and stopped in the fast lane.
Three vehicles behind the Chevrolet came to a stop, including a 2018 Honda Civic driven by the woman, farthest to the rear.
A 2011 Lexus IS 350 also in that lane failed to stop and slammed into the back of the Civic, causing a chain-reaction collision involving all of the vehicles.
Woman Dies in Riverside Crash
The Fontana woman driving the Civic was transported to a hospital in Riverside, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
A juvenile passenger in the Lexus and the driver of the car directly in front of the Civic were transported to a hospital with moderate injuries.
The driver of the Lexus, who was not injured, stopped at the scene to cooperate with the police but was not arrested.
The other drivers and their passengers sustained minor injuries but were not hospitalized.
No other details were given.
Lanes were closed in the area as crews worked at the scene.
The crash is under investigation.
