Genaro Mendiola ID'd as Driver Killed in Delhi Collision on Highway 99 near Shanks Road
Merced, California (October 12, 2021) – The pickup truck driver who died early Sunday morning in a traffic collision near Delhi in Merced County has been identified as Genaro Uvalle Mendiola, 21, of Ceres.
The deadly crash happened at about 1:25 a.m. Sunday, October 10, on northbound Highway 99, just north of Shanks Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Mendiola was driving a 2012 Dodge Ram southbound on Highway 99 when he entered the center median area and slammed into a construction barrier, the CHP said. The impact caused the Dodge to overturn and land on its wheels.
Mendiola was ejected from the vehicle and was then hit by four other vehicles traveling northbound on Highway 99.

Mendiola was pronounced dead at the scene.
The drivers of the other involved vehicles pulled over at the scene and cooperated with the authorities.
No additional information about the accident was provided.
