, California (February 18, 2022) – The County Medical Examiner's Office identified the bicyclist who died after he was struck by a speeding DUI driver Sunday in Oxnard.

47-year-old George R. Miranda Jr. of Oxnard was riding a blue BMX-style bike and was struck by a 2018 Honda Civic driven by Andres Morales, 27, of Oxnard.

The accident happened at around 10:18 p.m. on eastbound Wooley Road, just east of Oxnard Boulevard.

Authorities said Miranda was riding his on the right shoulder of Wooley. At the same time, Morales was driving the Honda eastbound on Wooley at a high rate of speed when he veered onto the right shoulder and struck Miranda.

The bicyclist was ejected from the bike, sustaining injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police arrested Morales on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. He was charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, DUI alcohol causing injury, and driving with a blood-alcohol level of .08 percent.

Morales pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Ventura County Superior Court and remained in jail as of Wednesday in lieu of $50,000 bail.
