, California (July 14, 2022) – Guillermina Carapia Lara, 71, of , has been identified as the woman who died following a collision with a fuel on Wednesday evening in Fresno County, according to the Fresno County Coroner's Office.

The crash took place in the area of Marks and Manning avenues shortly before 6:43 p.m. on July 13.

According to CHP, Lara was driving on Marks Avenue when she stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of Manning Avenue.

Lara then pulled out into the intersection and her vehicle was hit on the driver's side by a fuel truck heading east on Manning Avenue.

According to the authorities, Lara died at the scene following the accident.

The driver of the big rig was uninjured in the crash.

Both drivers were reportedly wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident.

The deadly crash is under investigation.

Fresno County, California (July 14, 2022) – A 71-year-old woman died following a crash involving a fuel truck in Fresno County on Wednesday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The wreck happened on Marks and Manning avenues just before 6:43 p.m. on July 13.

CHP said the 71-year-old woman was driving on Marks Avenue when she stopped for a stop sign at the intersection.

The woman then pulled out into the intersection, and her vehicle was struck on the driver's side by a fuel truck traveling east on Manning Avenue.

According to the report, the woman died at the site of the accident.

The operator of the big rig was not injured in the crash.

Authorities said both drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Crash Fatalities in California Went Up in 2021, Early Federal Estimates Show

Newly released estimates by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that fatalities caused by traffic crashes on U.S. freeways reached a 16-year high in 2021. The crash deaths also increased in almost every state, including California, according to NHTSA.

According to the Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021 report released by NHTSA, about 42,915 people were killed in traffic collisions in 2021 in the US. This shows a 10.5% increase from the 38,828 fatalities reported in 2020.

NHTSA says the projection is the highest number of traffic deaths since 2005 as well as the largest percentage rise in the history of the Fatality Analysis Reporting System.

In California, 4,258 people died in traffic collisions in 2021 – a 10.7% increase from 2020's 3,847, as per the NHTSA report titled – “Crash Stats: Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021.”

According to the traffic deaths estimates, in the two-state region that includes Arizona and California, crash fatalities in 2021 are projected to go up by 10% over the previous year.
