Heintz Guth Injured in Fatal 2-Car Crash at Ashby Road and Cooper Avenue in Merced

Merced, California (June 22, 2022) – Heintz Guth, 85, of Merced, has been identified as the man who was injured in a two-vehicle accident on Wednesday afternoon that killed a 75-year-old woman in Merced, authorities said.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 22-year-old woman was traveling westbound on Ashby Road when she attempted to make a right-hand turn onto Cooper Avenue.

The officials said that the 22-year-old woman's vehicle collided with a 2019 Volkswagen, driven by Guth, which was stopped at a stop sign.

As a result of the crash impact, the Volkswagen reportedly overturned.

Sadly, a 75-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the Volkswagen, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Guth and the 22-year-old woman were injured in the accident and were taken to Mercy Medical Center for treatment.

Merced, California (June 22, 2022) – At least one person was killed Wednesday afternoon following a two-vehicle collision at an intersection in Merced.

According to the CHP, the deadly crash occurred at about 12: 41 p.m. at the intersection of Ashby Road and Cooper Avenue.

It was not immediately clear what caused the two vehicles to collide. Authorities say one of the vehicles overturned following the impact.

As per the CHP, at least one person was killed in the collision. No other information regarding the mishap was provided.

The incident is under investigation.

Crash Fatalities in California Went Up in 2021, Early Federal Estimates Show

Newly released estimates by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that fatalities caused by traffic crashes on U.S. freeways reached a 16-year high in 2021. The crash deaths also increased in almost every state including California, according to NHTSA.
According to the Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021 report released by NHTSA, about 42,915 people were killed in traffic collisions in 2021 in the US. This shows a 10.5% increases from the 38,828 fatalities reported in 2020.
NHTSA says the projection is the highest number of traffic deaths since 2005 as well as the largest percentage rise in the history of the Fatality Analysis Reporting System.
In California, 4,258 people died in traffic collisions in 2021 – a 10.7 increase from the 2020's 3,847, as per the NHTSA report titled – “Crash Stats: Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021.”
According to the traffic deaths estimates, in the two-state region that includes Arizona and California, crash fatalities in 2021 are projected to go up by 10% over the previous year.
