Ian Rutledge ID'd as Menifee Man Killed in Winchester Car Accident on Highway 79 near Patterson Avenue
Winchester, California (May 5, 2022) – Ian Rutledge has been identified as the 23-year-old man who was killed in a Tuesday afternoon traffic accident that left one other person injured in Winchester, according to the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner's Bureau.
The deadly accident happened at about 1:20 p.m. on the southbound side of Highway 79, south of Patterson Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Rutledge was traveling northbound on the highway at a high rate of speed when he attempted to navigate a left curve in the road. Unfortunately, Rutledge lost control of the BMW and was broadsided by a Toyota pickup truck.
The pickup truck, driven by a 44-year-old San Bernardino man, was reportedly headed southbound on the highway at about 50 to 60 mph when the BMW crossed his path, perpendicular to traffic. The Toyota's front end crashed into the BMW's right side.

Sadly, Rutledge was pronounced dead at the scene.
The pickup's driver was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Authorities closed southbound Highway 79 for several hours due to the collision.
An investigation into the accident is underway.
