38-Year-Old Iowa Woman Killed in Joshua Tree Bicycle Crash on Highway 62 near Rice Avenue

Joshua Tree, California (October 28, 2021) – A female bicyclist died after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday afternoon in Joshua Tree, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly accident occurred at about 2:25 p.m. Wednesday, October 27, on westbound Highway 62, just west of Rice Avenue.
A 38-year-old Iowa woman was riding her bicycle on the westbound shoulder of Highway 62 when a Nissan made an unsafe turning movement onto the highway's shoulder and struck the back of the bicycle, the CHP said.
The woman was thrown off the bike and landed on the right shoulder of the road.

The woman was transported to the Hi-Desert Medical Center in Joshua Tree where she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.
The driver of the Nissan, an 80-year-old from Twentynine Palms, was also transported to the Hi-Desert Medical Center with possible minor injuries.
It is undetermined whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.
No further details regarding the collision were immediately provided.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
