James Nielsen Arrested after Lake County Accident on Highway 53 near Dam Road

Lake County, California (July 21, 2022) – James Nielsen, 27, of Clearlake, was arrested on suspicion of DUI after a fatal pedestrian collision early Wednesday morning in Lake County, according to the Clearlake Police Department.
The incident took place shortly before 1 a.m. on July 20, on Highway 53, just north of Dam Road.
According to the report, a Toyota Tacoma driven by Nielsen collided with a pedestrian in the area for unknown reasons.
The victim, identified as James Torrey Jr., 43, of Clearlake, died at the scene of the accident.
Nielsen suffered only minor injuries in the collision. He was also arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
Authorities booked Nielsen into the Lake County Jail and he was reportedly released the same day.
The accident caused a closure of Highway 53 for over six hours as investigators examined the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
