Jami Strinz and Kiley Jones Killed, 9 Hospitalized after Head-on Accident on Highway 42 near milepost 23 in Coos County

Coos County, OR – The Oregon State Police has identified a driver a passenger killed in a head-on collision on Highway 42 in Coos County Friday night as Jami Lea Strinz, 46, of Roseburg and Kiley Nevaeh Jones,19, of Nampa.

The deadly traffic vehicle collision was reported at around 9:56 p.m. on State Route 42 near milepost 23.

A preliminary investigation indicated a westbound Chevrolet Silverado, operated by Johnathan James Dowdy, 32, of Coos Bay, crossed the centerline into the eastbound lane and collided head-on with an eastbound Chevrolet Express driven by Strinz.

The bus was occupied with 10 members of the Umpqua Community College softball team.

The driver of Chevrolet Express bus, Strinz, was transported with critical injuries and was later declared deceased at the hospital.

A passenger of the Chevrolet Express, Kiley Nevaeh Jones, 19, of Nampa (ID), was declared deceased at the scene.

Dowdy suffered serious injuries and was transported to an emergency medical center.

The other 8 occupants of the Chevrolet Express, whose identities were not released, suffered moderate to serious injuries and were provided emergency medical services.

Impaired driving was considered a primary cause of the crash.

The highway was impacted for approximately five hours during the on-scene investigation.
