Joan Rubalcava Dies in Merced County Accident on Highway 99 and Le Grand Road
Merced County, California (February 24, 2022) – 51-year-old Joan Rubalcava, of Fresno, was killed in a head-on collision that occurred in Merced County on Wednesday night, the California Highway Patrol said.
22-year-old Billy Cole, of Red Bluff, was driving a 2006 Nissan Titan north on Highway 99 near Le Grand Road when he drifted into the opposite lane and collided head-on with an oncoming 2017 Honda Pilot driven by Joan.
The incident happened just before 7:40 p.m., February 23.

The crash caused one of the cars to collide with a southbound2019 Chevrolet Malibu driven by 41-year-old Carla Benavides of Chowchilla.
Rubalcava was pronounced dead a the scene, according to the Merced County Sheriff Coroner's Office.
Cole sustained moderate injuries and was flown to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment.
Benavides was transported to Mercy Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
