Joanne Figueroa Hurt in Deadly Buttonwillow Accident on Shafter Avenue and Burbank Street

Buttonwillow, California (July 25, 2022) – Joanne Figueroa, 34, was injured in a deadly traffic collision that took place in Buttonwillow on Saturday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The wreck happened on Shafter Avenue and Burbank Street shortly before 4:30 p.m. on July 23.
According to the CHP, Irving Rodriguez-Barraza, 22, of Wasco, was driving a Dodge Ram eastbound on Burbank Street when he failed to stop for a stop sign and collided with a Jeep Cherokee traveling northbound on Shafter Avenue.
The Jeep was pushed into an Almond tree by the impact of the crash and it overturned after colliding with it.
The Dodge also collided with a stop sign at the intersection.

Figueroa was a passenger in the Jeep. Children aged 1 and six were also passengers in the Jeep.
The occupants of the Jeep were taken to Kern Medical, where the 1-year-old was pronounced deceased.
Rodriguez-Barraza and his passenger were also taken to Kern Medical for treatment.
Authorities said Rodriguez-Barraza is suspected of DUI.
An investigation into the collision is ongoing.
