Reports indicated a westbound Toyota Rav4 driven by Zapata, attempted to pass a Dodge Ram 2500 with a trailer, operated by Raphael Francis Spielman, and struck an eastbound Acura TL, operated by Novotny.

Lincoln County, OR. – Jose Manuel Zapata and Scott Thomas Novotny were killed in a three- car accident on Highway 20 in Lincoln County Monday evening.
According to the Oregon State Police, the wreck was reported on State Route 20 near milepost 30 at around 6:35 p.m. on July 1.
Reports indicated a westbound Toyota Rav4 driven by Zapata, attempted to pass a Dodge Ram 2500 with a trailer, operated by Raphael Francis Spielman, and struck an eastbound Acura TL, operated by Novotny.
The collision caused all three vehicles to come to an uncontrolled rest along the highway.
Zapata and Novotny were killed in the accident.
The passenger in the Toyota, Joseph Mauricio Cruz, 31, of Portland, was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.
The operator of the Dodge Raphael and passenger, Janice Kay Spielman, 75, of Gaston, were also taken to an area hospital with severe injuries.
The highway was impacted for several hours.
An investigation is ongoing.
