Juan Cabo Killed in Apple Valley Crash on 15 Freeway near Hodge Road

, CA – The Sheriff's Office has identified the person who was killed in a traffic collision on I-15 in Apple Valley on Tuesday last week.

The victim has been identified as 40-year-old Juan Cabo.

The San Bernardino Police Department said the crash involved a white Dodge dually truck pulling a trailer and a gray Nissan Pathfinder.

Investigators said a 32-year-old North Hills man was driving the Pathfinder when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle veered onto the right asphalt shoulder of I-15 and crashed into the Dodge Ram 3500 towing a 2023 Cal Trailer.

Reportedly, the Dodge was disabled and was stopped on the shoulder. No one was inside the Dodge at the time of the collision.

A passenger in the Nissan, later identified as Juan Cabo, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected during the crash. Cabo was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.

The Nissan driver was taken to Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Apple Valley with unspecified injuries.

CHP said the man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.

The impact sent the Nissan airborne, and it flipped multiple times, eventually coming to a rest on its wheels.

One person who got ejected from the Nissan was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Another party was flown to Providence St. Mary Medical Center in Apple Valley with unspecified injuries.

The California Highway Patrol is handling the investigation.
