9-Year-Old Julien Nieves Killed in Brentwood Train Crash on Orwood Road and Bixler Road

Brentwood, California (July 5, 2022) – A 9-year-old boy involved in a train collision that happened on June 26 in Brentwood has succumbed to his injuries, according to a local news source.
The deadly crash took place around 1 p.m. in the area near Orwood Road and Bixler Road.
A four-door sedan traveling northbound through a dirt driveway was carrying people to a vineyard property for a fundraiser when the sedan was struck by a westbound Amtrak train at an unmarked crossing.
The impact pushed the car nearly 60 feet off the tracks and onto a parked SUV.
The crash killed three women in the sedan at the scene. They were identified as Julia Mondragon, 41, of Dixon, Mercedes Regalado, 51, of Antioch, and Maria Nieves, 72, of Dixon.

9-year-old Julien Nieves of Dixon was also in the sedan and succumbed to his injuries on June 29 at a hospital.
Two men who were also riding in the sedan were taken to hospital with major injuries.
One other party suffered moderate injuries.
The train was carrying 81 passengers and five crew members at the time of the collision and none of them was hurt.
The authorities are conducting an investigation into the incident.

Brentwood, California (June 26, 2022) – Three people were killed when an Amtrak train collided with a vehicle in Brentwood on Sunday afternoon, according to the authorities.
A four-door sedan reportedly pulled into the train tracks near the area of Orwood Road and Bixler Road and was struck by the train at around 1 p.m.
The impact sent the car off the roadway and it collided with a second vehicle.
The train came to a stop nearly a quarter-mile from the point of the collision.
The crash left three women deceased. Authorities said the deceased women were all over the age of 50.
Meanwhile, a child and two other men involved in the crash were taken to John Muir Medical Center with serious injuries. One of the men had to be airlifted from the scene.
A fourth patient was treated for moderate injuries.
Authorities said all victims of the crash were in the car. 81 passengers and five crew members on the train were uninjured.
An investigation into the deadly crash is underway.
Crash Fatalities in California Went Up in 2021, Early Federal Estimates Show
Newly released estimates by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that fatalities caused by traffic crashes on U.S. freeways reached a 16-year high in 2021. The crash deaths also increased in almost every state, including California, according to NHTSA.
According to the Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021 report released by NHTSA, about 42,915 people were killed in traffic collisions in 2021 in the U.S. This shows a 10.5% increase from the 38,828 fatalities reported in 2020.
NHTSA says the projection is the highest number of traffic deaths since 2005 as well as the largest percentage rise in the history of the Fatality Analysis Reporting System.
In California, 4,258 people died in traffic collisions in 2021 – a 10.7% increase from 2020's 3,847, as per the NHTSA report titled – “Crash Stats: Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021.”
According to the traffic deaths estimates, in the two-state region that includes Arizona and California, crash fatalities in 2021 are projected to go up by 10% over the previous year.
