Kari Marboe Killed in Lucas Valley Crash on Rubicon Court

Lucas Valley, California (June 18, 2022) – Kari Marboe, 37, of San Rafael, has been identified as the woman who was killed in a crash involving a suspected DUI driver in Lucas Valley on Tuesday night, the California Highway Patrol said.
The crash occurred at around 9:23 p.m. on June 14, on Rubicon Court.
CHP said Brian David Phillips, 39, of San Rafael, was driving a 2016 Land Rover northbound on Rubicon Court when he struck Marboe, who was standing in the roadway.
Marboe was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident.
Phillips was not hurt in the accident and was arrested for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and felony DUI causing great bodily injury.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Lucas Valley, California (June 18, 2022) – Brian David Phillips, 39, of San Rafael, was arrested after an auto-pedestrian collision that left a woman dead on Tuesday night in Lucas Valley, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The accident happened at about 9:23 p.m. on June 14, on Rubicon Court.
CHP said Phillips was driving a 2016 Land Rover north on Rubicon Court when he collided with a woman believed to have been crossing the roadway.
The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Phillips was not injured and was arrested on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and felony DUI causing great bodily injury.
The identity of the pedestrian was not released pending notification of the next of kin.
The crash remains under investigation.
Traffic Collision Fatalities Reached a 16-Year High in 2021, Early Estimates Show
Newly released estimates by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that fatalities reached a 16-year high last year.
According to the Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021 report released by NHTSA, about 42,915 people were killed in traffic collisions in 2021. This shows a 10.5% increase from the 38,828 fatalities reported in 2020. NHTSA says the projection is the highest number of traffic deaths since 2005 as well as the largest percentage rise in the history of the Fatality Analysis Reporting System.
The report indicates that the traffic fatalities in the following categories showed relatively large increases in 2021, as compared to 2020;

- Fatalities among drivers 65 and older rose by 14%
- Pedestrian fatalities up 13%
- Fatalities in crashes involving at least one large truck up 13%
- Daytime fatalities up 11% Fatalities on urban roads up 16%

- Fatalities in speeding-related mishaps up 5%
- Fatalities in police-reported, alcohol-involvement collisions up 5%
