Placer County, California (July 16, 2022) – Authorities have identified 43-year-old Kevin Beelard of Foresthill as the man killed after a head-on collision on Tuesday afternoon between and Foresthill community in Placer County.

According to a California Highway Patrol dispatch, the collision happened around 3:00 p.m. July 12, on Foresthill Road, just west of Drivers Flat Road near Portofino Drive.

Per the dispatch, Beelard was heading west in a green Toyota Corolla when it collided head-on with a blue Acura MBX traveling east.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene and declared Beelard dead at the crash site.

The Acura female driver and three of her children were transported to the Sutter and UC Medical Center for treatment of injuries ranging from moderate to severe degrees. The patients' names were not immediately available.

Authorities closed down Foresthill Road in two directions for some hours.

An investigation is underway.

Placer County, California (July 12, 2022) – Authorities are investigating a Tuesday afternoon head-on collision that killed a man and left a mother and her three children injured in Placer County.

The deadly accident occurred at about 3:00 p.m. on Foresthill Road, just west of Drivers Flat Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a green Toyota Corolla, driven by the Foresthill man, was headed westbound on Foresthill Road when it collided head-on with an eastbound blue Acura MBX operated by the mother.

Sadly, the Foresthill man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The mother and her three children sustained moderate injuries and were hospitalized for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation.

Crash Fatalities in California Went Up in 2021, Early Federal Estimates Show

Newly released estimates by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that fatalities caused by traffic crashes on U.S. freeways reached a 16-year high in 2021. The crash deaths also increased in almost every state, including California, according to NHTSA.

According to the Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021 report released by NHTSA, about 42,915 people were killed in traffic collisions in 2021 in the US. This shows a 10.5% increase from the 38,828 fatalities reported in 2020.

NHTSA says the projection is the highest number of traffic deaths since 2005 as well as the largest percentage rise in the history of the Fatality Analysis Reporting System.

In California, 4,258 people died in traffic collisions in 2021 – a 10.7% increase from 2020's 3,847, as per the NHTSA report titled – “Crash Stats: Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021.”

According to the traffic deaths estimates, in the two-state region that includes Arizona and California, crash fatalities in 2021 are projected to go up by 10% over the previous year.
