Kirk McCarty and Valerie McCarty Killed in 3-Vehicle Collision on Highway 41 in Madera County

County, CA – The California Highway Patrol has identified two people who were killed in a a traffic collision caused by a suspected drunk driver on Highwya 41 near Coarsegold Tuesday afternoon.

The CHP identified the deceased victim's as 78-year-old Kirk McCarty and 76-year-old Valerie McCarty, both from Coarsegold.

The couple were in a Ford Bronco that was struck head-on by a white Chevy work operated by Felipe Angel Ramirez, 42, of Coarsegold.

Authorities said Ramirez lost control of the work truck on a curve, clipped an SUV and the struck the Bronco head-on at about 4 p.m. on May 27 on Highway 41 near Van Teri Road.

The work truck and the Bronco fell into a ravine after the collision. Kirk McCarty and his wife Valerie McCarty died in the crash.

Ramirez suffered major injuries and remains hospitalized but is expected to survive.

Police believe Ramirez may have been impaired at the time of the crash.

The incident is under investigation.

Madera County, CA – A man and a woman were killed following a head-on traffic collision caused by a suspected drunk driver on Highway 41 near Coarsegold, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The deadly collision happened at about 4 p.m. on May 27 on Highway 41 near Van Teri Road.

Investigators said the driver of a white utility truck was speeding and lost control on a curve.

The driver of a black SUV swerved to avoid colliding with the truck, but the truck ended up clipping the SUV, before hitting a Ford Bronco.

The utility truck and the Bronco fell into a ravine after the collision.

Two people – a man and a woman – in the Bronco suffered injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. The names of the victims were not immediately released.

The truck driver was seriously injured in the crash and is believed to have been impaired at the time of the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.
