LAPD Sgt. Shiou Deng and Another Driver Killed in Crash on I-405 in Brentwood

, CA – Two people, including a veteran Los Angeles police sergeant, were killed following a traffic collision on in early Monday.

The deadly collision happened around 2 a.m. on the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway, just north of Moraga Drive.

Los Angeles Police Department said, 53-year-old Sgt. Shiou Deng came upon a traffic collision on the southbound side of 405. Sgt. Deng stopped his patrol SUV to help the involved motorists.

The sergeant reportedly activated his rear amber lights to slow traffic coming from behind him, and protect motorists involved in the crash. He then exited his vehicle and was hit by another vehicle.

Deng was rushed to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center where later died.

Another person in the initial collision, a man believed to be in his mid-30s, suffered injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A third person was hospitalized following the crash.

No additional information was provided.

The crash is under investigation.
