, CA – The authorities have released the names of two men who died in crashes along Baker Street in Bakersfield on June 22.

The deceased pedestrian has been identified as Mario Hernandez Ortega, 40. The driver who also died in the crash has been identified as Luis Alfredo Garcia Lopez.

Authorities said a vehicle struck Mario Ortega about 6 p.m. on June 22 at Baker and Sumner Streets and fled the scene.

Ortega was transported to Kern Medical where he died a day later.

Investigators said the hit-and-run driver, later identified as 30-year-old Reginald Moland, drove northbound on Baker Street at a high rate of speed, ran a red light at the intersection with Niles Street, and collided with a westbound vehicle operated by Luis Lopez.

Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Reginald sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital. Authorities said Reginadl was arrested earlier this month and faces charges, including two second-degree murder charges, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and hit-and-run resulting in death.

Bakersfield, CA – Two people died in accidents involving a hit-and-run driver in Bakersfield on Sunday evening, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.

The incident took place on Baker and Sumner Streets at about 6 p.m. on June 22.

A driver reportedly hit a pedestrian in the area and fled the scene, traveling north on Baker Street.

Shortly after, the suspect failed to stop for a red light at Niles Street and collided with a second vehicle.

The driver of the second vehicle died at the scene of the accident.

The pedestrian was rushed to a hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The suspect was also transported to hospital with significant injuries.

Police are conducting an investigation into the collision.
