, California (June 17, 2022) – Lynda Pettitt, 52, of Escalon, was seriously injured in a deadly crash involving an alleged DUI motorist on Saturday night near Stockton, according to a report by the California Highway Patrol.

The incident happened at around 9:15 p.m. on June 11, on Jack Tone Road near Mariposa Road.

Authorities said Kurt Pettitt, 56, of Escalon, was driving a Kawasaki cart on Jack Tone Road when he was struck by a 2020 Volkswagen Jetta driven at a high rate of speed.

Both Kurt and Lynda, who was a passenger in the cart, were ejected from their vehicle following the impact of the crash.

Kurt was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Lynda was transported to General Hospital with moderate injuries.

The other driver, a 20-year-old man, was reportedly swerving across the double yellow lines and traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the collision. He suffered minor injuries.

The driver was also arrested on suspicion of DUI and booked into the Jail.

The crash is under investigation.

Stockton, California (June 15, 2022) – Kurt Pettitt, 20, a maintenance and transportation worker at Escalon Unified, was killed in a crash with a suspected DUI driver near Stockton on Saturday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The wreck happened on Jack Tone Road on Saturday, June 11.

Pettitt collided head-on with a vehicle driven by a 20-year-old driver.

The impact ejected Pettitt, his passenger, and two dogs.

Sadly, Pettitt  died at the scene of the accident.

The passenger was hospitalized with moderate injuries.

There was no update on the condition of the dogs.

The 20-year-old motorist was arrested on suspicion of DUI following the collision.

Authorities are still investigating the deadly crash.

Traffic Collision Fatalities Reached a 16-Year High in 2021, Early Estimates Show

Newly released estimates by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that fatalities reached a 16-year high last year.

According to the Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021 report released by NHTSA, about 42,915 people were killed in traffic collisions in 2021. This shows a 10.5% increase from the 38,828 fatalities reported in 2020. NHTSA says the projection is the highest number of traffic deaths since 2005 as well as the largest percentage rise in the history of the Fatality Analysis Reporting System.

The report indicates that the traffic fatalities in the following categories showed relatively large increases in 2021, as compared to 2020;

      • Fatalities in multi-vehicle collisions went up 16%
      • Fatalities among drivers 65 and older rose by 14%
      • fatalities up 13%
      • Fatalities in crashes involving at least one large truck up 13%
      • Daytime fatalities up 11% Fatalities on urban roads up 16%
      • Motorcyclist deaths up 9% Bicyclist deaths up 5%
      • Fatalities in speeding-related mishaps up 5%
      • Fatalities in police-reported, alcohol-involvement collisions up 5%
