Major Injuries Sustained in Semi-Truck Accident on 5 Freeway near Camp Pendleton

County, Calif. – At least one person sustained major injuries in a multi-vehicle collision that happened early Tuesday morning near Camp Pendleton, the California Highway Patrol said.

The crash occurred around 2:24 a.m. on the southbound near San Onofre Nuclear Plant.

First responders found at least four vehicles, including two semi-trucks, an SUV, and a Toyota Prius.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the two semi-trucks and the SUV were involved in a crash under unclear circumstances. A few minutes later, the Prius was involved in a two-vehicle collision. It was unclear if the Prius collided with one of the vehicles involved in the first crash or a different car.

At least one person suffered major injuries in the three-vehicle accident Paramedics transported the victim to the hospital in unknown condition.

There were no injuries reported in the other collision.

CHP officers are investigating the crashes.
