Scooter Rider Critical after University City Accident on Nobel Drive

University City, California (August 1, 2022) – A man was hospitalized with critical injuries after a scooter he was riding on collided with a vehicle in the University City area on Monday afternoon, according to the San Diego police.
The wreck occurred in the 4100 block of Nobel Drive at about 2:19 p.m.
Police said a 47-year-old man was riding a Bird scooter eastbound on Nobel Drive when he made a left turn against a red arrow and collided with the front of a westbound Hyundai Elantra.
The scooter rider was rushed to a hospital with major injuries, including a fractured right femur, soft tissue damage to his head and face, and cervical fractures.
The other motorist, a 58-year-old woman, was not injured in the accident.
DUI was not suspected in the incident, police said.
The San Diego Police Department is conducting an investigation into the crash.
