Santa Rosa Man and Three Children Injured in Crash near West 3rd St and Arboleda Dr

, CA. – A man and his three children were seriously injured when their minivan collided with a Santa Rosa City Tuesday afternoon, authorities reported.

The accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. near the city's West 3rd Street and Arboleda Drive intersection.

A red Honda Odyssey minivan occupied by a 44-year-old Santa Rosa man and his three children collided with a white 2019 Ford Ranger pickup truck owned by the city of Santa Rosa.

An initial investigation revealed that the Santa Rosa man was initially driving the minivan eastbound on West 3rd Street in the left lane when he moved to the right lane to pass two vehicles.

At the same time, the driver of the pickup truck was traveling in the right lane when they began to merge to the left because the roadway narrows into one lane.

As the city employee merged, the Santa Rosa man attempted to pass the pickup truck but hit the rear left side of the truck with the front side of the minivan.

The minivan deflected and slammed into two trees in the median.

The minivan driver and his three boys suffered severe injuries. The man was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. The children were hospitalized in unknown conditions.

His 5-year-old boy is believed to have been in the front passenger seat in a booster seat, his 11-year-old boy occupied the second row behind the driver, and his 12-year-old son was in the third row behind his brother.

The city employee did not require medical treatment. Police said he did not show any signs of impairment.

Authorities also said that due to the medical condition of the minivan driver, they needed additional investigation to determine if he was intoxicated at the time of the collision.

An investigation into the crash ongoing.
