Man Killed in Colorado River Boating Accident near Bedrock Rapid in Grand Canyon

Grand Canyon, Arizona (September 12, 2022) – A man was killed in a boating accident on the Colorado River in Grand Canyon National Park on Saturday afternoon.
The incident was reported at around 2:12 p.m. near Bedrock Rapid on the Colorado River.
The Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received reports of a flipped boat and responded immediately.
Park rangers landed at the scene and performed CPR on 67-year-old Ronald Vanderlugt. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment.
Four other people sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were flown to South Rim Helibase.
No additional information about the incident was provided.
The National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner are investigating the incident.
