Tacoma, WA – A Texas man died in a hit-and-run collision that happened early Saturday morning on Interstate 5 in Tacoma, the Washington State Patrol said.

The wreck occurred in the southbound lanes of I-5 near the interchange.

Authorities said a car was, for an unknown reason, stopped in two lanes of southbound I-5, facing perpendicular when it was struck by another vehicle traveling down I-5.

The driver of the car that was stopped, only identified as a 39-year-old man from Temple, Texas, died in the crash.

The driver of the other car is believed to have been injured in the crash. That vehicle was totaled in the collision, and the driver fled the scene.

Authorities are collecting information to help establish what transpired leading to the accident.
