Marcial Sanchez Killed in Fiery Multi-Car Crash on State Route 108 at Mono Way in Sonora

, California (November 4, 2021) – A man who was killed in a fiery multi-vehicle collision in Sonora on Saturday, October 16th, has been identified as 60-year-old Marcial Sanchez, of .

The pileup occurred on westbound at Mono Way, west of Sanguinetti Loop, at around 5:28 p.m.

The California Highway Patrol said Sanchez was in a Toyota pickup that was traveling eastbound on Highway 108 and was trying to pass a Chevrolet Avalanche pickup that was being driven by Brian McGregor, of Moccasin.

Evan Hatler of Coulterville was driving a Dodge Pickup with a trailer in tow westbound on highway 108. Behind him was a Subaru Forester driven by Colleen Kotoske of Jamestown. Driving behind the Subaru was a GMC Suburban driven by Arturo Balderas, of Modesto.

Sanchez tried to pass the vehicle ahead of him and triggered a chain-reaction collision.

Sanchez's pickup burst into flames, trapping him inside and he was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The Suburban also caught fire in the accident.

Everyone else involved in the crash suffered no injuries or minor injuries.

Sonora police, firefighters, Caltrans, and other emergency personnel responded to the scene.

There were no details given about whether the other parties involved were injured.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision.
