, California (October 13, 2021) – Marie Morris and Phil Morris were injured Monday afternoon in a plane crash in Santee, according to a local news source.

The deadly accident happened at about 12:15 p.m. Monday, October 11, in the area of Greencastle Street and Jeremy Street, near Santana High School.

Authorities said a twin-piston Cessna 340 was en route from Yuma, Arizona to Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport in when it developed engine problems.

The Cessna 340 attempted to land at Gillespie Field near the high school and crashed at the intersection of Greencastle Street and Jeremy Street.

The wing of the plane clipped a UPS that was approaching a red light. Witnesses told the authorities the fuselage then slid toward two homes, including the couple's house, and burst into flames.

The pilot, Dr. Sugata Das, and the UPS truck driver, Steve Krueger, were killed in the accident.

Marie Morris sustained 3rd-degree burns on her head, face, and arms, and hands, while Phil Morris suffered injuries to his head, one side of his face, and his arms and legs. Both were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

A GoFundMe page has been created to help cover medical expenses for the Morris family.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the accident.
