Martina Valdez ID'd as Woman Killed in Merced County Crash on Turner Island Road and Palazzo Road
Merced County, California (September 29, 2021) – The Merced County Sheriff Coroner's Bureau has identified the driver who died Wednesday morning in a traffic collision involving a farming tractor near Dos Palos in Merced County as Martina Lopez Valdez, 50, of Dos Palos.
The deadly collision happened at about 6:30 a.m. at the intersection of Turner Island Road and Palazzo Road, north of Dos Palos, the California Highway Patrol reported.
According to the CHP, Lopez Valdez was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Spark southbound on Turner Island Road at an unspecified speed while Joaquin Hernandez, 54, of Dos Palos, was driving a 2017 Challenger tractor with an attached furrow chisel northbound on Turner Island Road.
Due to the width of the tractor and limited lighting, the Chevrolet collided head-on with the left side of the tractor's furrow chisel.

Lopez Valdez was declared dead at the scene.
Authorities temporarily blocked the intersection while the officers investigated the scene.
Alcohol or drugs were not considered a factor in the crash.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing.
