Martinez, California (September 26, 2021) – A died after being struck by a vehicle Sunday evening on a freeway in Martinez, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The deadly pedestrian accident happened just after 7:50 p.m. on southbound , just north of the exit.

The CHP said the pedestrian was on the southbound side of the interstate when an approaching white Toyota sedan struck them.

The pedestrian was declared deceased at the scene. The name of the victim has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the Toyota stopped at the scene and was cooperative, authorities said.

At 8:12 p.m., a Sig-alert was issued, blocking all southbound lanes of Interstate 680.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information or who witnesses the collision is urged to call the CHP at 925-646-4980.
