The suspect continued on and lost control in the area of 12th Street and East 21st Street, hitting a fire hydrant and two pedestrians

Oakland, CA. – The pedestrian who died after being struck by a vehicle pursued by the authorities in Oakland on Wednesday night has been identified as Castlemont High School teacher Marvin Boomer, according to the authorities.
The incident began at about 7:30 p.m. May 28, in the area of 102nd Avenue and International Boulevard when CHP officers attempted to stop a driver operating a vehicle that was wanted in connection with a hit-and-run incident in Alameda County.
A brief chase started when the suspect fled the area and came to an end when the suspect was involved in a collision with a minivan shortly after near Park Boulevard and 21st Street.
The suspect continued on and lost control in the area of 12th Street and East 21st Street, hitting a fire hydrant and two pedestrians.
One of the pedestrians, identified as Boomer, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The second pedestrian was taken to a hospital and was said to be in stable condition.
The occupants of the minivan involved in the initial crash were hospitalized with minor injuries.
The suspect, identified as Eric Scott Hernandez-Garcia, 18, of Oakland, tried to flee on foot after hitting the pedestrians but was caught by the officers.
He was booked into the Santa Rita Jail on multiple charges including vehicular manslaughter, felony evading, and hit-and-run.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
