1 Killed in Merced Car Crash on Highway 59 at W Sandy Mush Road
Merced, California (October 16, 2021) – The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal car crash that happened Saturday night in Merced.
The fiery Highway 59 crash occurred at around 8:32 p.m. at the intersection of W Sandy Mush Road and left a man dead.
A Dodge Ram pickup truck and a Mercedes-Benz collided at the intersection under unclear circumstances.
The Mercedes-Benz caught fire after the impact with an elderly man still inside.
A party reporting the accident told authorities that they could not get the man out of the car.
The driver of the pickup truck also called authorities saying the fire was possibly spreading to their vehicle.

Authorities responded to the scene and confirmed that the man died in the accident.
It was not clear if the driver of the pickup truck was injured.
Both vehicles were towed away for evidence.
The roadway remained closed for an unknown period following the accident.
