Miguel Hernandez Arrested after Fatal Madera County Accident on Road 27 at Avenue 17

Madera County, California (February 13, 2022) – Miguel Hernandez, 33, was arrested on suspicion of DUI after a fatal multi-vehicle collision that left one woman dead in Madera County Wednesday evening, according to authorities.
49-year-old Patricia Vargas died at the scene of the crash that took place at about 6 p.m. February 9, at Road 27 and Avenue 17.
Authorities said Hernandez was driving a Chrysler north on Road 27 when he made a sudden turn onto westbound Avenue 17.
Vargas, who was driving a Nissan Rogue on Avenue 17, tried to swerve to avoid the Chrysler but struck the rear of the Chrysler.
The Nissan then collided head-on with a truck that was pulling a trailer.

Vargas died at the scene of the collision while one of her passengers was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment of major injuries.
A second passenger in the Nissan, an 11-year-old girl, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision and was taken to Valley Children's Hospital with major injuries.
Hernandez was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
