Modesto Man Killed in Head-On Collision on Santa Fe Avenue in Denair

Denair, California (September 16, 2021) – A head-on collision has claimed the life of a man and left another man with serious injuries Thursday morning south of Denair, according to the  California Highway Patrol.

The deadly wreck happened at around 6:30 a.m. on Santa Fe Avenue, approximately a half-mile south of Monte Avenue.

The CHP said a 63-year-old Modesto man was driving a Subaru SUV northbound on Santa Fe Avenue when he attempted to pass a vehicle in front of him.

For unknown reasons, the Subaru collided head-on with a south Toyota sedan. The impact pushed the Toyota backward, where it was rear-ended by a Nissan SUV driven by a 48-year-old Modesto resident.

The Subaru driver was transported to Emanuel Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The man driving the Toyota was transported to Doctors Medical Center with major leg injuries.

The Nissan driver did not suffer any injuries in the collision.

All drivers were sole occupants of their respective vehicles. The names of the deceased victim and the injured party have not been released.

It is undetermined whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, which remains under investigation.
