, California (January 10, 2022) – A two-vehicle crash has claimed the life of a 36-year-old man late Saturday afternoon east of and left another driver seriously injured, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The deadly wreck took place on Highway 120 on Saturday, January 8.

According to the CHP, the 36-year-old Modesto man was driving a sedan westbound on Highway 120 at a high rate of speed when he drifted across the double yellow lines and attempted to pass an SUV.

For an unknown reason, the sedan then collided with an eastbound pickup .

The driver of the sedan died at the scene. His name was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The pickup truck driver sustained major injuries in the collision. Their condition at this time remained unknown.

It is still unclear if intoxication was a factor in the collision, which remains under investigation.
