, California (June 13, 2022) – Joseph Jared Sigala-Barron, 14, has been identified as the motorcyclist who was killed in a multi-vehicle collision on Wednesday night in San Bernardino.

The deadly crash happened at around 9:30 p.m. at southbound , north of the 5th Street exit.

The California Highway Patrol said Joseph was riding a motorcycle when he was involved in a multi-vehicle collision involving a silver Toyota Corolla, a gray GMC SUV, and a silver sedan.

The San Bernardino man was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation into the accident is underway.

San Bernardino, California (June 9, 2022) – A motorcyclist was killed in a multi-vehicle crash that happened Wednesday night on Interstate 215 in San Bernardino, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The pileup occurred at around 9:30 p.m. in the southbound lanes of the interstate near 5th Street, causing a huge traffic backup.

CHP, San Bernardino Fire Department, San Bernardino Sheriff's Office and Caltrans responded to the scene.

The collision involved the motorcyclist, a silver Toyota Corolla, a gray GMC SUV, and a silver sedan.

The silver sedan was located in the center divider just north of 2nd Street with rear-end damage. The female driver of the Corolla advised authorities that she hit the motorcycle after it was already down, and pulled to the center divider.

The firefighters administered CPR to the motorcyclist, but the person died of their injuries at the scene.

Southbound I-215 was entirely closed following the crash. Motorists were being diverted off the interstate at 5th Street. The Nos. 4 and 5 lanes were reopened at around 9:36 p.m.

CHP is investigating to establish the cause of the accident.

Traffic Collision Fatalities Reached a 16-Year High in 2021, Early Estimates Show

Newly released estimates by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that fatalities reached a 16-year high last year.

According to the Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021 report released by NHTSA, about 42,915 people were killed in traffic collisions in 2021. This shows a 10.5% increase from the 38,828 fatalities reported in 2020. NHTSA says the projection is the highest number of traffic deaths since 2005 as well as the largest percentage rise in the history of the Fatality Analysis Reporting System.

The report indicates that the traffic fatalities in the following categories showed relatively large increases in 2021, as compared to 2020;

      • Fatalities in multi-vehicle collisions went up 16%
      • Fatalities among drivers 65 and older rose by 14%
      • fatalities up 13%
      • Fatalities in crashes involving at least one large up 13%
      • Daytime fatalities up 11% Fatalities on urban roads up 16%
      • Motorcyclist deaths up 9% Bicyclist deaths up 5%
      • Fatalities in speeding-related mishaps up 5%
      • Fatalities in police-reported, alcohol-involvement collisions up 5%
